The semi-tempered glass TVG, similarly as the tempered glass ESG, is a type of glass produced on the basis of the ordinary float glass, the soft- and hard-coated glass, ornamented or dyed in mass glass. In this case the base glass is warmed up to the temperature of 625 °C, and it is a subject of slow cooling by the air stream. In terms of the properties the TVG glass is between the ordinary and tempered glass. Its mechanical strength is lower than this of the ESG glass, but in case of breaking it falls down into the significantly larger pieces and therefore a risk of glass falling out from the frame or another mounting is reduced. The shards of glass interlock with each other and remain at their place.
The semi-tempered glass should be used in all cases when its shards can be hazardous to humans, e.g. in the roof lights, sky-lights and in the glazed developments in a slanted position.
Advanatages of the semi-tempered glass:
- improved bending strength,
- improved mechanical strength,
- improved thermal strength..
The TVG glass is an interesting alternative for the tempered glass ESG. However, you should remember that is not the safety glass.
